The Aeronautical Message Handling System (AMHS) plays a vital role in air traffic management, facilitating the exchange of critical ATS information between domestic and international aviation authorities. While the older AMSS system, using a simpler protocol, has served its purpose for many years, along with the development of science and technology, the advent of AMHS (next generation of AMSS), employing the X400 protocol, offers significant advantages such as enhanced speed, processing capabilities, throughput, reliability, and security. This makes it a more suitable solution for the evolving needs of the aviation industry.
Recommended by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) for upgrading ATS message handling systems, the basic AMHS has been successfully implemented by ATTECH in Vietnam and used by the Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation for ATS operation since 2018. Based on user feedbacks, ATTECH has continuously updated and enhanced the system through subsequent releases of U.A. The basic AMHS system has also been successfully Interoperability Testing (IOT) with neighboring countries, including Thailand, Hong Kong, Singapore, Laos, and the Philippines… The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam has approved the plan for AMHS interoperability as proposed by VATM under the Document No. 6692/CHK-QLHDB dated 09 December 2024.
Building upon the success of the basic AMHS, the deployment of the Extended AMHS is a key objective in Master plan for development of Civil Aviation of Vietnam’s Communications, Navigation, Surveillance/Air Traffic Management (CNS/ATM) systems orientation towards 2030. ATTECH has identified and included in its research and development plan for Extended AMHS software with configuration IX (Basic + IHE + DIR + FTBP) corresponding to the ICAO Doc 9880 Part II.
To ensure that the Extended AMHS developed by ATTECH meets international standards, ATTECH signed a contract on October 25, 2024, with Galadrium (headquartered at UK) for conformance testing services. Mr. Leonardo De Vida, who is the company's managing director and a former senior engineer at ISODE, conducted on-site testing at ATTECH's Hanoi headquarters from October 31 to November 7, 2024 and has continued to make remote testing upon ATTECH’s completion of updates based on the test recommendations.
